Tutorial: Big Fat Crochet Rug - Part One

Hi folks.  This is a first for me on a couple levels.  I've never done a tutorial before and I've never done a "vlog" post before.  Actually, I've never really been on the internet in video form for any reason.  So - hooray for trying new things!

On with the show.  I will let the video speak for itself...so here ya go!

Part Two to follow! (as soon as I get the hang of this video thing...)

Oh! And the lovely reader I mentioned says this is a size "Q" hook.

PS: If anyone has trouble viewing this video - please let me know.  Like I said - I'm new to this :)

Thank you so much Diane! What a confidence booster. It's fun doing video posts! - but I was a little nervous about posting them. :)

Nice to hear your voice and see you in 'Ripping' action! :-)) I'll be looking forward to Part 2.

How fun to see a bit more of who you are. I love that you discovered the ripping method for getting through large chunks of fabric. I wish, however, that I had been smart like you before I tore all of my first project into strips and then tied them together to crochet a purse (which still isn't finished and is residing in a box in the basement!) I'll have to try it again and, this time, try your method of doing one continual strip.

Can't wait for the next part of the tutorial!

Thanks, Ladies! I know - recently, a couple blogs I follow have started posting videos and I thought it was so interesting to "see" them and get to know them better b/c of it. So I figured I'd give it a whirl!

Lol @ you Shawna. Sorry for your troubles - but maybe you'll have motivation to try this again as it's a whole lot easier this way!

Hi there!! Thank you soo much for posting this! I just saw it the other day on craftgawker.com (i think) and got super inspired!! I started working on my own rug (never crocheted before, so it was interesting trying to start it) but I already have quite a bit finished! I'm already thinking of tons of different crochet projects! I'm new to this blog thing, but so far so good! Love yours! :)

Can I use really old blankets?

I was starting to feel crazy for having collected so many old sheets from thrift stores and not doing anything other than store them... I'm so excited to do this project now!

Hey I'm just wondering about how many sheets/blankets you used to do your rug? :) Thanks!

Hi Natters! I think I put this somewhere in the comments ^...so you could check there to be sure, but I believe that at the point it is in the picture, there are 17 sheets/blankets/etc in it. Have fun!

The hook you have in the picture looks huge - what gauge is it? Where do I get one? I can't wait to start one of these!!!

Hi, Laura! I believe one reader commented that it is a 'Q'. :)
