He's coming along!! I'm getting really excited about him now.
Today I got his eyes placed and put in, and sewed on his eyelids. I also got his head spines made and sewn in. I knew I wanted to do this eye style as soon as I had the idea to do a dragon. And although I've seen a lot of great artists use it (here) (here) (here), I've never tried it before so I was kinda scared I wouldn't know what the heck I was doing. And I didn't. But a lot of pre-thinking and pre-positioning before getting my needle and thread out - and everything worked perfectly! I'm really happy with the results.
Here, he kinda looks a bit warthog-y. :)
His little toofers are sticking out funny and his nose is a bit scrunchy. It's hard to get a good shot of a 3-D creature when he's still in 2-D form. But you get a good idea. :) I can't wait til he's all sewn up and I can start stuffing him!!
Next will be creating the wing pattern and putting some serious though into whether I'll be able to make my idea work or not...eek! My problem is - how do you attach wings where there is no seam? I'm thinking of just cutting a hole in the right spot, coating it with fray-check, and putting the wings in with a cardboard rod (like from the dry-cleaner's hangers) inserted into both the wing and the body. I'd hide the hole, then, with a tube-ish, joint, similar to how his lips look, wrapped around the wing base. Alright fellow plushie-heads - whatdya think?
