Music I'm Diggin Right Now

Sorry I've been such a crappy blogger lately.  Everything seems to be falling behind.  This is the first weekend in a while where I have had no obligations so I hope to stay on task and get a lot accomplished.......easier said than done, right?  But that's the plan!

Anyway - Lana Del Ray.  I saw her on Idol the other night and immediately fell in love.  Such an interesting creature.  Disclaimer: watching this video may leave you feeling a bit disjointed.  But I love it.  She haunts me. (If you get the chance - look up some live stuff & some other songs. I'm diggin her.)  Enjoy!

Birth of an Elephantie

I'm taking a slightly different approach to creating this plush.

Usually, I just draw up a design, mull it over in my head to figure out how to take it from 2-D to 3-D (this part can actually end up taking the longest - pondering while falling asleep at night, drawing out different pieces over and again, thinking about it driving to work and back, etc.), start drawing up and fitting pattern pieces and then I'm off to fabric.

The step from pattern to fabric has always been a wing and a prayer kinda jump.

But seeing as how heffalumps (and sometimes woosels) can be quite confoosal - I didn't want to take any chances.  So I tried a complete mock up.  And look!!

It's a half an elephant!  Haha.  Of course I only cut out one of each of the pieces so he's a little floppy - but you get the general idea.  I have to switch gears and finish up my owlie now.  But I'm really happy on the progress I made with this today.  <3  What do you think?!

In The Works...

What I've been working on lately:

I've been phenomenally inspired by what I've seen going on in the fashion world lately.  The tribal designs, southwestern flair, all the natural elements - stone, feathers, shell, bone, wood, crystal.

I think it's absolutely beautiful.  And very much my style.  So I've just been playing around with some new ideas.  I got a new Dremel set for Christmas too which I cannot wait to break in!!  I'll be incorporating these kinds of elements into the new stuff that I make from now on.  And more of the components will be handmade too.  So stay tuned on that.  (These ^ two will be in the shop soon.)

We're off to check out an estate sale that's going on down the street from us.  Just for kicks.  It's the last day, so I'm not sure what I'll find - but that's when you snatch up the best deals too, right? :)

When I get back - it's off to the craftroom for me to work on that handsome Prof. Nerdus Owlus and get some more done on the elephantie I was showing you the other day.  Hooray!!

What are you up to today??

Treasury Love - Front Page Status, Boyeeee!

Woohoooo!  I've never been on the Front Page before. :)

For any of you who are not fluent in Etsyish - the front page is the main page of Etsy - anyone who visits the site while you're featured will be seeing your goodies.  (Ooo! Sounds naughty.  Haha!)

Vicki, who is not only the mom of one of my very good friends and a lovely human being, but a fellow Etsian herself (check her awesome stuff out here!) brought it to my attention on my way home tonight.  I wasn't at my computer so I didn't get an actual screen shot - but I'd still like to share the treasury with you. :)  Enjoy!

Elephanties "R" Us!

I'm working on a custom elephant plush for a very cool chicky I met through the blogosphere. (Hi Kaila!)

I've never done an elephant before.  Eeek!  But I've been sketching and planning and figuring and I finally got to the point where I can start making pattern pieces.  Hooray!

And actually, this pattern is coming along pretty smoothly. I've been at it just an hour (ok maybe two) but I'm at least half done and I think it's really gonna look great. Every time I do one of these patterns, I think I get a little better at it.  Boooyah!!

Ok, I know it doesn't look like much yet - but believe me - patterns are tricky creatures.  Once I get all the pieces figured out - I can start picking out and cutting fabric!  I can't wait!!  I'm hoping to get it 100% figured out this week. Then I can get my Professor Owl  done this weekend.  And if I'm feeling really squirrely (and have the time) I can start cutting out this pachyderm.  :)

A little creature sketch...

Just a couple little doodler ideas I sketched up the other day. Thinkin about making him into a plush. What do you think?

Love it?  Hate it? (See his double eyes? He'll have 4 total! Lil' monster guy...) :)
